4 steps to a natural indoor oasis

Bringing the outdoors in is a breeze!

How do you get the ball rolling? Start by covering a wall in imitation barn wood with visible veins. It looks so real, it’s easily mistaken for authentic reclaimed barn boards. The perceptible knots and veins instantly give a room that special design touch.

Then it’s time to have fun choosing furniture. For a bit of a bohemian look, don’t be shy to use neutral-coloured natural materials like wood, rattan, leather, linen and cotton. The best thing about these materials is that they go perfectly together and never feel overdone. And you’re in luck with the current trend of wicker basket lights, macramé plant hangers, fuzzy throws and plant-fibre rugs. Metals with a patina effect and pieces with clean lines also fit well with the natural look, giving it a more modern and graphic feel. It’s just a question of taste.

You don’t need to spend a fortune on the final touches. One aspect of decorating that can be really fun is rummaging around flea markets and garage sales to find unique baskets, terracotta vases and other ageless decorative treasures.

Round out the look with pops of green, like succulents and cacti that brighten up an understated palette.
